Howdy Partner Toddler Costume
I didn’t think my four year old would like Gene Autry movies. The loud clothes, the showy saddles, black and white film. Gene Autry’s signature singing style. Leave it to my dad to prove me wrong.
We spent this year’s vacation at his house, and they must have watched almost every Gene Autry movie ever made. I must confess, I did not know my dad’s collection was so extensive. My little boy absolutely adored the slapstick humor, even if he didn’t get Pat Buttram’s jokes, or Smiley Burdette’s sense of humor just yet.
He did love Mr. Autry’s horse, Champion. (World’s Wonder Horse!) He loved the old songs, like “Poor Little Dogie” and “Back in the Saddle Again”. I had thought today’s toddlers and preschoolers were too sophisticated for Gene Autry, what with all the video games, and CGI-animated movies available. In at least one case, I was wrong. My little one adores Gene Autry, no matter if most of his films are black and white. So I’m now on the hunt for a cowboy toddler costume.
Personally, I’m glad to see him go to something from a simpler time. Many people today don’t even remember Gene Autry, though he was Roy Rogers’ predecessor in the singing cowboy genre. Those few who do know him from TV and movies, don’t know that Mr. Autry was a real working cowboy before he hit it big as a singing cowboy. (I guess that vacation at Dad’s got us both interested in something new.)
My little boy is already asking me for a cowboy costume, “Like Gene Autry, Mom. I don’t want to be Woody!” I find myself glad he’s seemingly outgrown the Toy Story Phase. I was tired of watching those movies over and over again.
I finally found the perfect cowboy toddler costume for him. It is called the Howdy, Partner! Cowboy Costume. It comes with everything he needs to look just like a singing cowboy. I’ll get him a little toy guitar, and he’ll be set. Now, if I could just get him to sing the right words to “Poor Little Dogie”, and find him a strawberry roan. He says no other horse will do on Halloween.
