Rawhide Renegade Child Costume
My seven year-old had become very interested in cowboys, after watching a few episodes of Rawhide with my dad one weekend. He was obsessed with all things cowboy, especially Rowdy Yates, Clint Eastwood’s old character.
When he told me in July that he knew what he wanted to be for Halloween, I started looking around online for western cowboy costumes. He assured me that he didn’t want a licensed character cowboy costume. He wanted to look like a “real cowboy.”
I looked at quite a few costume sites, not sure if I was ever going to find him what he really wanted. I had a vision of my second-grader dressed as a spaghetti-western cowboy, or at least like Wyatt Earp. It was kind of cute, I had to admit. I was happy he wanted to dress up like a good guy, instead of Billy the Kid or one of those old Gene Autry bad-guys.
I wondered if a costume like that could even be found. Did kids still like to dress up as cowboys, even when there were no Toy Story movies out in theaters? I have to admit, I haven’t seen any kids playing cowboy or gunfighter since I was little, and Pale Rider was in theaters.
It was around this time that my friends and I all got introduced to the iconic ‘Man with No Name’ characters played so well by Eastwood. We’d stalk across the yard in our mom’s cardigan sweaters, chewing on bubblegum cigars, shooting at each other with cap guns. I snapped myself out of my day dreams and began to search really hard for that one special costume. Now I understood how important this was; I’d find him that costume, no matter what!
I did find the perfect costume at Buy Costumes. The Rawhide Renegade costume has his imagination now. It isn’t even time to shop for back to school, but he asks me every day about that Rawhide Renegade costume. It’s the most realistic looking child’s cowboy costume I’ve found. My son can’t wait for Halloween! I just wonder how many more times I can stand to hear him sing ‘Rawhide’!
